Vehicle Testing Station
4 Wansbeck Street
The site adjacent to the Customs House originally contained a building used by the Oamaru Technical School, before being taken over by central government and the local council for various purposes.
In the 1960s, the land was subdivided and a vehicle testing station was constructed for the Ministry of Transport. Evidence of this former use remains visible today, including the original wooden garage doors located behind the current entranceway and the high roofline designed to accommodate large vehicles.
In later years, the building was purchased by the Salvation Army and repurposed as an employment training facility.
