Leave a Legacy

How it Works

There are four main types of gifts you can choose to leave to a charity:

  1. Residual: The remainder of your estate after considering your loved ones.
  2. Percentage or fractional: A gift expressed as a percentage or fraction of your estate.
  3. Pecuniary or specific: A specified gift which can be money, property or stocks and shares.
  4. Whole estate: This comprises your entire estate and is usually left by those without beneficiaries or those wanting to achieve something very significant.

You can talk to a lawyer about the type of gift that will best suit you and your estate.

Remember - gifts left to charities in wills are exempt from any inheritance tax and capital gains tax.

Gifts of Money

You don’t need to have a lot of money to leave a gift in your will. Anyone can leave a gift to the Oamaru Whitestone Civic Trust and we welcome all gifts, large or small.

Money from bequests will be particularly valuable to us for maintaining and interpreting our heritage properties and assist in maintaining our collection of historic objects and precious items relating to our properties in the Precinct.

If you wish to talk to us directly regarding a possible gift (either under your will or during your lifetime) please call our Property Manager Michelle Harrison on (03) 4345385 or email her at admin@victorianoamaru.co.nz and she will arrange for one of the Trustees to contact you directly.
